The history of the Faculty of Basic Telecommunication Education (FBTE) spans almost 20 years. The first name of the faculty, that was created on September 1, 1996, was the General Engineering Faculty (GEF). It was later renamed to Faculty of Basic Telecommunication Education (FBTE). The main specificity of the faculty is teaching mathematics, natural sciences, and general technical disciplines to students of junior courses.

In the beginning of 2000, the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies (FIST) was reorganized from the Faculty of Economics, Telecommunications and Informatics. It consists of eight departments, employing more than 100 highly qualified teachers, among them there are 20 Doctors, Professors and over 55 PhDs. Teaching staff of the departments actively works on improving educational process, quality of education and conducting scientific research. The main goal of the faculty is the training of experts providing a transition to a modern information society in which information systems and technologies exert a decisive influence not only on the way of making products and services but also on the structure of society, economy and politics. |
The Faculty of Telecommunications and Radio Engineering (FTRE) was established in 1961, when the first students were recruited for the course of Wired Communications. Graduates of the faculty are engaged in the operation, development, design of modern multichannel telecommunication systems, switching systems and secure communication networks, through which a variety of information is transmitted over long distances (television, voice, telemetry, data for computer centers, automated control systems, etc.). Information transmission is carried out by cable, radio relay, space and optical communication lines. Graduates of the Telecommunications Faculty are mainly employed by research and design facilities, construction and installation corporations and communication enterprises. |
The extramural faculty provides students all educational programs of higher professional education without work interruption. For college graduates, there is accelerated higher education. The faculty also trains people who wish to obtain second higher education on a contractual basis. This faculty uses the most up-to-date information technologies of education. Distance learning students are provided with all the educational and testing aids on electronic media, the training is performed via the Internet, e-mail and such distance learning technologies as remote consultations, testing, exams and lectures on teleconferences. |
